The story was fucking BORING. The characters were nondescript. No wit. Awful. Nice costumes and that. He normally does a good adaptation, so I am blaming the story, not the adaptation.

Nurse, Go back and watch it again.
Some of the best TV this decade. For an adaptation of what IS the finest novel EVER, its soooo goooood !

Try the book, Soldo. Take your time with it. Its basically two books. Each alternate chapter is either about the romance or the war.
One of the best books ever of its kind.

The book is good but bloody long. Something the TV series did that wasnt in the book was Bezukhov's last lines...
"'When our lives are knocked off course, we imagine everything in them is lost... but it is only the start of something new and good.'
'As long as there is life, there is happiness. There is a great deal, A great deal still to come.'
